Tommy West has been a successful creative force in the music industry for almost thirty years. His career as an artist began when his high school doo-wop vocal group, "The Criterions", made it on to the top of the pop charts. In the sixties he was a most sought session singer and sang backup up vocals on albums by Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Sammy Davis, Jr., Connie Francis, and Mitch Ryder. He was also a featured vocalist on radio and television commercials. In the seventies, as part of the singer/songwriter duo Cashman & West, he released seven albums on the Capitol and ABC/Dunhill labels, enjoying a number of pop chart hits including the now classic, "American City Suite."
Tommy West's production credits include an almost 1000 batting average in discovering, developing, producing, and making record deals for singer/songwriters in New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville. This experience spans over into founding and running two important acoustically focused singer/songwriter record labels, "Lifesong" - based in New York City in the seventies, and "MTM" (Mary Tyler Moore) - based in Nashville in the eighties.
Artists
Tommy West has found, guided, and recorded have not always become stars,
but with one or two exceptions, he has given every one of his "discoveries"
hit recordings right out of the box. Among these artists are Jim
Croce,
Henry Gross,
Crack The Sky, Dean Friedman, Ed Bruce, Gail Davies, Holly Dunn, Judy Rodman,
and Girls Next Door. He also orchestrated "comeback" efforts of such
stars as Rock n' Roll hall of famer Dion an folk legend Mary Travers.
In 1992 he launched "High Harmony Records" and it's initial release, "Through The Raindrops", by harmonica virtuoso Robert Bonfiglio remained on the "Billboard" New Age Charts for nine months. The album also made the top twenty year end New Age Chart in "Billboard" and also launched Bonfiglio's continuing success story on the "QVC Network." He appears on "QVC" several times a year and regularly sells out.
In 1993 Tommy West teamed up with pop/country superstar Anne Murray and produced "Croonin'," a collection of classic pre-rock pop songs of the fifties. The album is now approaching triple platinum status in Canada and is considered by Anne to be her finest album as a vocalist. "Croonin' " also received a coveted "Canadian Juno" award in 1993 as the best engineered pop recording.
Presently,
West is completing a three year project.
A state of the art recording environment called "Somewhere In New Jersey."
Among the studio's successful credits is a collection of popular standards
recorded for "Time/Life Music," which again features Robert Bonfiglio on
harmonica, accompanied by a string quartet, acoustic rhythm and synthesizer.
The studio is housed in a 5,000 square foot, 150 year old barn on West's
property. It has been designed especially for live acoustic music.
