Tribute
Songs
This page is dedicated to the memory of Jim Croce,
the friend I never met

Maury Muehleisen & Jim Croce

Although Jim has been gone for over 30 years now, his words and music live on in the hearts of many of us. Not only to those of us who remember when "Time in a Bottle", "Operator", & "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" were on the top of the charts, but also to a new generation who have rummaged through their parents old "album" collections and discovered all over again what we found then! A man who told us stories through his words and music. Stories about the people he met and the reflections of his own heart through his life's short journey.

In his own words, Jim wore many "hats and faces", during his thirty years with us - truck driver, construction worker, teacher, musician, storyteller, lover,  husband, father, and friend. A friend to many of us who wore out his albums listening to them over and over again through times of happiness and heartbreaks.

This page is for him. On it you will find some of Jim's songs redone by people just like you and me. People who sat in their rooms with their guitars and sheet music, painstakingly listening to those Croce records, desperately trying to differentiate between Jim & Maury's guitars, and wondering how the hell Maury did that stuff so sweetly over Jim's flowing guitar parts. Then, sadly coming to the conclusion that they would never be able to play like that since Maury had seven fingers on his left hand! ( Just kidding, he only had six! ) ( Just kidding again! )

You will also find some original songs, written by people who were influenced by Jim's style.  Granted you'llprobably never hear any of these songs blasting from your car stereo or ever buy their CD's, but they are all here because Jim influenced them.  Hope you enjoy them!

This is for you Jim, the friend I never met!

Some of these songs no longer play (songs not marked "mp3"), as the original "Real Audio" files were lost.  We will try to locate and replace these at a later date.

This song was sent in by Andre Katz from Brazil. Great job Andre, and thanks for sending it !!

Ron Gletherow is a Jim & Maury fan from England, who attended the "Gathering" in Philadelphia. Ron immediately became one of the Croceteers and performed at the Saturday night Concert at Villanova!

Ron also appeared  on British national TV, in a show called "Stars In Their Eyes" with over 10 million viewers! He appeared as Jim Croce and sang I'll Have To Say I love You In A Song!

Ron has since married "Margo" (aka Margaret Cafarelli), whom he met at the 1998 fan "Gathering", and has now set up home with her in Connecticut.  Ron has his own website at rongletherow.com and writes and performs his own music, also appearing live with Margaret as the duo "Maggie's Guitar".

Mark Young is a newly recruited "Croceteer" from Michigan, and has been playing Jim Croce songs solo for the past twenty years or so. He recently joined forces with fellow guitarist, Chris Murray, who Mark calls his "Maury reincarnate".

Mark has a website at musicbymark.net and is performing "Croce" covers, along with a catalogue of his original compositions, plus Irish and traditional folk songs.

Happy to have you aboard, Mark!

Tom Orecchio is the original author of this Jim Croce Tribute Page, and also the founder member of the now famous "Croceteers". Without his hard work and dedication, none of this would have been possible.

Tom, a man of many talents including audio engineering and web site design (to name but a few), is also an accomplised singer/musician and songwriter. His music from his CD, "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda", can be heard at his Soundclick site by clicking here.

Here are three of my favorite compositions by Tom, which I'm sure will soon become favorites of yours.

Don Parsons is another member of the famous "Crocteers". Don hails from Alabama, and has been a devout Jim & Maury fan since there was a Jim & Maury!

Don is an excellent singer-songwriter who worked as a recording engineer in "Fame Studios," and has had his songs recorded and sung by T.G. Sheppard and Mac McAnnaly!

Don has released his own CD, entitled "The Demo Collection!"

Don also has become a close personal friend, and I knew if I grew up in Alabama as a kid, I would have been giggin' frogs with him! (or at least holdin' the flashlight)
